Many well-known franchises belong to a larger company: a public hotel or restaurant group, or a private equity-backed platform that buys up home service, fitness or food brands. Knowing who owns a brand tells you who sets its direction, which sister brands share its suppliers and staff, and where to look when you compare it with its siblings.

Why the owner matters
A big parent can bring buying power, technology and a deep bench of support staff, and a brand inside a group can grow faster than it could alone. It can also mean a brand is one of many priorities, or that a private equity owner plans to sell it within a few years. Ask how long the current owner has held the brand, what changed after it bought it, and how the brand’s locations have done since. Each company page lists its brands side by side, with links to compare them and to filter them in the franchise finder.
Questions
Is the parent company my franchisor?
Usually not directly. Each brand is normally franchised by its own company, a subsidiary of the parent, and that subsidiary signs your agreement and owes you its obligations. Where the parent guarantees those obligations, its financial statements are attached to the brand's filing, which is worth reading if the subsidiary itself has few assets.
Can I own franchises from two brands of the same company?
Often, and several multi-brand companies court owners who add a second brand. Each brand still sells its own franchise, with its own fee, approval and agreement, and a non-compete clause in one agreement can bar a sister brand in the same trade. Ask both brands in writing before you sign either.
What happens to my franchise if the parent company is sold?
Your agreement stays in force: it is with the brand's franchisor, which keeps its obligations when its owner changes. A new owner can still change suppliers, technology, support staff and the terms offered to new and renewing owners, so read the newest filing when you renew.
